Guard Audition Information: Audition camps will include evaluation in dance and equipment skills. Candidates wishing to audition for a weapons position should bring his/her own rifle or sabre. Flags will be provided. Some weapons will be available as well. However, there may not be enough for everyone. Comfortable clothes should be worn throughout the weekend. Only attire that is appropiate for this activity will be permitted. In order to reduce and prevent injury, most guard attire is unually worn fairly tight fitting. Guard practice attire is black and will be worn at all camps for the duration of the weekend.
Candidates will be taught basic warm ups techniques exercises. A short combination piece will be taught for the cadidates to be evaluated in large and small groups settings. In addition, candidates will be evaluated on movement, dance, eurhythmics, with added focus on stretching and strengthening exercises.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SPIN A WEAPON TO MAKE THE GUARD!
Afternoons will be spent on weapons basics and techniques. Candidates will be evaluataed on weapon skills based on these exercises. Membership will largely be determined upon ones skill sets in dance and flag FIRST. A mastery skill set must be first realized on flag and body movement before moving on to weapons.
For all candidates auditioning on weapons, you will need to bring a 39 inch rifle and / or 30 inch sabre.
Everyone will have an interview with the Corps Director and the staff during audition camp weekend. At that point any concerns, comments, and schedule conflicts must be addressed.
All candidates within who live within a 100 mile radius of Phoenix, Arizona must attend audition camps. Those outside the 100 mile radius are expect to utilize modern technology add provide a video tape and /or digital recording of his / her audition. Final auditions for guard is currently scheduled for December. Please remain alert for changes to the schedule and special announcements.
THINGS TO BRING:
- $65.00 camp and audition fee. Must be paid at the time of registration.
- Sleeping bag. (If your home is beyond the 100 mile radius)
- Usual overnight supplies such as: toothpaste, liquid soap, personal items, etc...
- All black dance attire, jazz shoes, jazz pants, tanks and t-shirts.
- Light sweater or jacket.
- Fingerless guard gloves.
- White and black electrical tape.
- 1 gallon water container. (Required. Not excused or exceptions)
- Money for meals. Meals are not provided at audition camps.
- Donate your used cell phones.
- Donate your empty laser and inkjet cartridges.
Brass: Things To Bring...
- $65.00 audition and camp fee. ( Must be paid at the time of registration.)
- Sopranos / Trumpets = Bring your own instrument and mouthpiece.
- Mellophones = Bring your own instrument and mouthpiece if possible. There will be several mellophones available.
- Baritones / Euphoniums = Bring your own instrument and mouthpiece if possible. There will be several instruments available.
- Contras / Tubas = Bring your own instrument and mouthpiecenif possible. Only a few instruments available.
- Full-footed athletic shoes and appropiate clothing for drum corps activity.
- Have your name on all of your belongings.
- On campus housing is available to those traveling from outside the 100 mile radius.
- Money for meals. Meals are not provided at audition camps.
- Usual personal hygiene supplies.
- Donate your used cell phones.
- Donate your empty laser and inkjet cartridges.
PERCUSSION: Things To Bring
